Efforts to conserve migratory sharks have been strengthened at an international workshop on shark conservation supported by the UN. Government representatives from nine countries have gathered in Dubai to lend more support to shark conservation in the region.
Mexico bans fishing for white sharks

On January 27th 2014, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (Sagarpa) has established a permanent ban on fishing for great white sharks ( Carcharodon carcharias) in Mexican waters.
Mantas named as protected species

The Indonesian Fisheries and Maritime Affairs Minister has declared the reef manta ray (Manta alfredi) and oceanic manta ray (Manta birostris) as protected fish species as they are facing an increased threat of extinction.
